Inner Planets
Outer Planets

Temperature is colder

 PLANETS
 CHARACTERISTICS
MERCURY
Mercury.gif (24267 bytes)

Too close to the Sun.
The temperature is too hot to support life.
VENUS
venus2.gif (18981 bytes)

A great amount of the heat  from the Sun is trapped in its atmosphere. This makes it hotter than Mercury.
EARTH
Earth-05-june.gif (42474 bytes)

Has water, air and a suitable temperature to support life.
The position is just right for it to receive enough heat to support life.
MARS
martes.gif (24681 bytes)

Almost all of its water is frozen.
Scientist have not found any life there.
JUPITER
jupiter_0001.gif (24889 bytes)

It is so big that all the other planets could fit inside it.
SATURN
Saturn-2.gif (71552 bytes)

Has three wide rings.
They can be seen with a telescope.
URANUS
uranus.gif (16919 bytes)

Is lying on its side as it goes round the Sun.
NEPTUNE
Neptune2.gif (12675 bytes)

Is covered with a blue ocean of liquid methane.
PLUTO

Is very cold because it is very far from the Sun.
